While smartphone giant Apple has already made its move by removing the headphone jack from the new iPhone 7, there are many smartphone manufacturers that are ready to follow the suite. The latest audio device class 3.0 introduced by USB – IF has apparently indicated that the era of headphone jack is nearing end. This new device specification has made way for connecting the headphones into USB Type-C port. The removal of audio jack would free the smartphones from multiple ports.
This would probably be introduced as a connector that will double micro USB as audio jack to connect the smartphones. Even Apple will soon bring this new connector to complement the new iPhone 7 that is not having headphone jack. Removal of headphone jack have made the phones slimmer and waterproof by removing the multiple openings.
It is also revealed the headphones connected to the USB port offer better sound output by cancelling the surrounding noise. Though the benefits of going jack-less are not much discussed yet, the future surely supports sleek and single port devices. There are still multiple views in these regards and while Apple, Intel and Motorola have shown willingness to go jack-less, Samsung still believes in providing separate headphone jack.
The future of headphone jack is still not clear but USB-IF introduced audio device would make it end.
