The morning paper very vividly advertised Google’s Android One in the major three budgeted smartphones of Karbonn, Micromax and Spice Mobiles!
What struck me was the 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, 1700mAh battery capacity, 1GB RAM, 4GB internal storage, a 5MP camera and a 4.5 inches IPS display and some cool software updates!
Wait…don’t jump over and roll down in excitement! The not so great news about Android One is that, it has missed its promise of the sub-$100 category! In India, where almost every other smartphone is raining with polished features and looks, will the Google’s most ambitious project for providing quality with reasonable cost stand up?
That has been hovering on in my mind, ever since Android One came to the forefront. The cost in Indian rupees is Rs 6399 and that is certainly not what the Google’s Android One project actually meant to be!
The packaging even though has a promise to entail on the buyers but the promised price may be a glitch! AndroidOne has however has a special tie-up with Airtel for allowing some free app downloads for its buyers!
The Android One phones will be only sold through online retail stores and very smartly Google has picked up which are they going to be! Smart yes but promise No!
Few days later, it’ll be known whether Google’s hyped Android One phones deliberated to the customer’s requirements or not!
